There are many forms of Natural Therapies which can be used with or separate to Reiki.
They include Colour Therapy, Shiatsu, Yoga, Reflexology, Crystal Therapy, Music Therapy, Tai Chi, Chi Gung, Homeopathy, Flower Remedies, Aromatherapy, The Alexander Technique, Spontaneous Painting, Personal Counselling, Inner Child Work and many more.
Natural Therapies have been in existence for thousands of years and have influenced modern medicine which has only been developed over the past 300 years.
As a pharmacist, I know that many medicines have their origins in plant extracts. Indeed, this pattern continues. The Rain Forrests of Brazil and the Herbs & Spices of India are being tested for their therapeutic qualities. Not so long ago, simple garlic was being scrutinized for its anti-viral effects and possible use for the treatment of AIDS. The spice Turmeric, is a natural antibiotic. Parsely is a natural di-uretic encouraging the passing of water. We are only now understanding what many people around the world have known for millenia.
All cultures, even that of consumerism, know the value and impact of colour. Colour is all around us and and impacts upon us more profoundly than we realise. Each chakra (or bodily energy centre) is represented by a different colour as each chakra's vibrational energy varies according to those of their respective colours. So colour affects us bodily too.
No culture has been devoid of music. Music Therapy is magic. Why do we dance to rock, hip-hop & pop music but feel very tranquil when we hear choral music, musical readings of the Koran or meditation music? Again, the different vibrational energies of the differnt types of music affect different chakras. The root chakra situated at the base of the spine is responsible for movement and so is affected by dance music but the crown chakra on the crown of the head responds to the vibrational energy of spiritual hymns.
Chi Gung, Yoga,Tai Chi and Reflexology like Reiki, all utilise the body's natural energy circuits to deeply relax & heal the emotions and body. Chi Gung, Shiatsu, Yoga and Tai Chi are physical looseners of the body and help connect the mind and body & give the mind & body strength and balance. All too often, we live in our heads and our bodies just follow us around serving us to order. We only seem to really notice and care for them when the body can do this no longer and starts to make its own demands. This is manifested in stress, illness and disease.
Even living in our head dosen't connect us with our inner self. Reiki in combination with inner child work is very, very effective for doing so.
Lastly, aromatherapy and crystals are also used with Reiki. Dfferent aromatic oils have different therapeutic purposes. For example, Lavender Oil is great for relaxation but Peppermint Oil is a mental stimulant.
Crystals are not only beautiful but also beneficial. Their crystalline structures absorb, conserve, focus and emit energy, especially in the electromagnetic waveband. For example, copper-containing crystals are powerful energy conduits that work quickly to heal joint pain and arthritic swelling. (1) Even the Ancient Egyptians valued crystals for their medical and spiritual purposes.
During treatments, I normally combine aromatherapy, meditation, crystal therapy & music with Reiki. Depending on need or demand, basic innerchild work can be most effective too.
